The Boynton Beach Police Department’s Photo Enforcement Program is a data-driven traffic safety initiative designed to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and improve roadway safety throughout the city. Utilizing advanced traffic infraction detection technology, the program monitors red light violations and school zone speeding in accordance with Florida law, including the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act (F.S.S. 316.0083) and other applicable statutes.
First implemented in 2010 for red light safety enforcement and expanded in 2025 to include school zone speed monitoring, the program reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to a multi-faceted approach to traffic safety. All detected events—images, video, and supporting data—are reviewed to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance before any Notice of Violation is issued.

The program follows strict operational procedures, including layered review queues, quality assurance audits, and clearly defined enforcement standards. Violations are processed through a structured system that may result in a Notice of Violation or, if necessary, a Uniform Traffic Citation following state guidelines and review requirements. All processes are subject to oversight, regular auditing, and compliance with Florida traffic enforcement laws.
Location selection for both red light and school zone cameras is based on traffic analysis identifying areas with the highest incidence of violations and crash risk, with the goal of improving driver behavior and reducing collisions over time. Program effectiveness is reviewed annually and reported through department leadership.
