The Crime Prevention Unit is dedicated to proactively reducing crime and enhancing community safety through education, partnerships, and strategic outreach. By working closely with residents, businesses, and community organizations, the unit helps identify potential risks, promote effective prevention strategies, and build strong relationships that support a safer community.

The unit offers a wide range of services designed to empower the public and deter criminal activity. These include the Trespass Agreement Program, which assists businesses and property owners with enforcement support; Bicycle and Generator Registration Programs to help recover stolen property; and comprehensive residential and business security surveys that provide tailored recommendations to improve safety.

In addition, the Crime Prevention Unit leads and supports a variety of community-based initiatives, including the Community Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol, Parking Enforcement programs, Teen Police Academy, and the Explorers program. Through these efforts, the unit fosters community involvement, increases public awareness, and encourages residents of all ages to take an active role in crime prevention and public safety.

This is a voluntary 12-month probation-like program for first time juvenile misdemeanants. The purpose of the program is to divert the first time juvenile offender from the traditional court system into a department-based program. The goal of the program is to hold the juvenile accountable for his or her actions, and to recognize the first time offender is not a habitual criminal. It is important to note that not all juveniles are eligible for this program. For more information, contact Officer Jivanet Rivera at RiveraJi@bbfl.us or call 561-742-6849.

The Boynton Beach Police Department has been brightening the holidays for underprivileged children in our city through the “Shop with a Cop” program since 2005. Officers escort the children as they shop for gifts for themselves and their families. The children are also treated to demonstrations by our specialty units. “Shop with a Cop” is successful due to the generosity and support of the business community, as well as individual donors. Please note, children are selected through their school. If your child is in need, parents should contact their child's school consideration.
