The Trends & Analytics Unit serves as a critical intelligence hub within the agency, transforming raw data into actionable insight. Its mission is to identify crime patterns, support investigations, and enhance public safety through advanced analysis and strategic information sharing.
What We Do
At the core of the unit’s work is the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret criminal data from a wide range of sources. By examining incident reports, suspect descriptions, geographic trends, and methods of operation, the unit uncovers patterns that help law enforcement stay one step ahead of criminal activity.
Analysts provide direct support to officers, detectives, and investigators by delivering specialized insights for complex cases—including missing persons, gang activity, auto theft, robbery, and homicide investigations. Whether responding to a specific investigative request or proactively identifying trends, the unit plays a vital role in solving and preventing crime.
Intelligence & Information Sharing
The unit develops and maintains robust criminal intelligence networks, ensuring that critical information flows efficiently between local, state, and federal partners. Intelligence is shared through bulletins, reports, and alerts—particularly when officer safety is at stake.
Analysts also manage sensitive intelligence files, validate and research criminal histories through national and state systems, and monitor key indicators such as pawnshop activity, sexual offender locations, and vehicle-related crimes.
Strategic Crime Analysis
Using advanced analytical techniques, the unit produces detailed intelligence reports and statistical analyses that guide operational decisions. These insights support strategies such as:
- Directed patrol deployments
- Targeted surveillance operations
- Stakeouts and enforcement initiatives
By identifying when, where, and how crimes occur, the unit helps allocate resources more effectively and prevent future incidents.
The Trends & Analytics Unit manages several critical functions, including:
- Maintaining active records and investigative support for missing persons and runaways
- Tracking sexual predators and offenders through mapping systems
- Monitoring auto theft trends, arson data, and impounded vehicles
- Managing “method of operation” (MO) files to identify repeat behaviors across crimes
- Reviewing field interrogation reports to extract actionable intelligence
Real Time Crime Center Integration
Working in close coordination with the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), the unit enhances situational awareness by combining live data feeds with analytical expertise. This integration allows for faster decision-making, improved officer safety, and more effective responses to incidents as they unfold.
Collaboration & Professional Excellence
The unit maintains strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, government organizations, and community stakeholders. Through ongoing training, professional development, and the adoption of emerging technologies, analysts remain at the forefront of modern policing practices.
