The Training & Recruitment Unit is responsible for attracting, developing, and maintaining highly trained professionals who reflect the values and standards of the Boynton Beach Police Department and the community it serves. Through a commitment to excellence, fairness, and continuous development, the unit supports both employee growth and the long-term effectiveness of the organization.

The Training Unit oversees the design, coordination, and delivery of all departmental training programs, ensuring compliance with Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) requirements, City of Boynton Beach standards, and agency policies. Training is developed based on job task analysis, core values, leadership development priorities, and operational needs identified by the Chief of Police.

In addition, the unit administers critical programs such as the Field Training Officer (FTO) and Police Training Officer (PTO) programs, coordinates specialized instruction for various assignments, and ensures all personnel receive the mandatory and advanced training necessary to perform their duties safely, effectively, and professionally.

Mandatory, Specialized Training

All sworn personnel are required to complete ongoing training to maintain proficiency and ensure compliance with state mandates. This includes annual use-of-force training, firearms qualification, first aid and infectious disease refreshers, legal updates, and specialized instruction in areas such as domestic violence, sexual abuse investigations, and mental health awareness.

The unit also coordinates specialized training for high-liability and specialty assignments, including SWAT, K-9, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, and supervisory roles, ensuring personnel are fully prepared prior to or shortly after assignment.

Recruitment

The Recruitment function is dedicated to attracting qualified candidates who reflect the diversity and values of the Boynton Beach community. In partnership with Human Resources, the department ensures a fair, impartial, and equal opportunity selection process.

All applicants undergo a thorough evaluation process that includes background investigations, physical and psychological assessments, interviews, and compliance with Florida Statute requirements. The goal is to select individuals who demonstrate strong moral character, professionalism, and the ability to serve the public with integrity.

Commitment to Excellence

Through structured training, rigorous recruitment standards, and a focus on continuous improvement, the Training & Recruitment Unit plays a vital role in building and sustaining a professional, well-prepared, and community-focused police department.
