Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a police officer, you must meet the following minimum qualifications at time of application:
- Be a United States citizen (U.S. born or naturalized).
- Have a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent, which includes United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI) tests. Equivalence of non-U.S. education must be approved by the State of Florida’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
- Be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and at least 19 years of age at time of application.
- Possess, or be eligible to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.

At the Boynton Beach Police Department, physical fitness is an important part of being prepared for the demands of law enforcement. Our Tactical Wellness Program encourages sworn personnel to maintain a high level of fitness through a voluntary program designed to support health, performance, and readiness.
Participants complete fitness testing every six months based on the Army Combat Fitness Test, which measures strength, endurance, and overall physical capability through events such as the deadlift, sprint/drag/carry, push-ups, plank, and power throw.
Officers who participate and meet performance benchmarks can earn additional leave time as a reward for maintaining excellent physical fitness. The department also provides access to an on-site police gym and training resources to help officers stay prepared for the physical challenges of the job.

- Have a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.

- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrate the ability to type at a required minimum speed (as determined by the department).
- Be able to pass a background investigation, including criminal history review.
