Congratulations to Officer Chad Shane on being voted November’s Officer of the Month. While patrolling the area of 1000 N. Railroad Ave., on Nov. 30, Shane saw a man running westbound in the middle of the roadway, looking over his shoulder. Shane believed something criminal may have occurred and attempted to stop the man by activating his overhead lights. The man eventually complied with Shane’s verbal orders to get down on the ground. Shane saw that the man was clenching a gold necklace in his left hand and was attempting to hide it underneath him. “Moments later, another male citizen ran over to Officer Shane, excitedly pointing to the male lying on the ground,” Sgt. John Dunlop wrote in his nomination letter. Shane’s investigation determined that the suspect on the ground had robbed the other man of his necklace. Derrick Darby, 29, was then taken into custody and transported to jail. “Officer Shane was diligent in his patrol duties and observed what may have initially been innocent details of a subject running, however, his continued observation of the subject caused him to investigate further, resulting in the arrest of a violent criminal,” Dunlop wrote. Congratulations on a job well done!
