Lt. Gary Chapman began his law enforcement career in 1985 after
completing the Suffolk County New York Police Academy. At the
age of 35, Chapman relocated to Boynton Beach to pursue his
childhood aspiration of becoming a law enforcement officer.
Chapman initially served as a road patrol officer in the uniform
services division. He was promoted to sergeant prior to becoming
road patrol lieutenant. He also served as a gang intelligence
officer, D.A.R.E. officer and special victims detective
sergeant.
He is currently lieutenant of the Investigative Services
Division. In this capacity, he is responsible for supervising
the detective bureau, crime scene investigations, criminal
intelligence, victim advocate and evidence.
Chapman served as trustee for the Boynton Beach Police Pension
plan in 2002 and 2003. He has served as the board chair since
2004. He holds a variety of certifications in management and
supervision, and recently earned certification in Advanced
Trustee Studies from Harvard Law School. Chapman is a Certified
Public Pension Trustee and is a member of Florida Public Pension
Trustee Association.
Chapman considers himself a family man and values the
relationships he has with family, friends, and colleagues. He is
happily married to his wife of 34 years and is a proud parent of
two grown daughters. He also has two granddaughters. He
considers himself extremely blessed and attributes his successes
to supportive parents, a loving wife, and close family and
friends.
