Meet Chief Katz

Chief Jeffrey S. Katz started his law enforcement career in 1989 with the Plantation Police Department as a Police Cadet. Chief Katz was eventually hired by Plantation as a Community Service Officer assigned to Communications. In 1994, Chief Katz was hired by the City of Parkland Public Safety Department as both a full-time police officer and a professional fire fighter. He joined the Boynton Beach Police Department in 1998.

He joined the Boynton Beach Police Department in 1998, where he served as a road patrol officer, recruiter, high liability training officer and background investigator. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2001. As a sergeant, Chief Katz supervised a squad on the road, and eventually supervised a variety of specialty units including crime prevention, K9, and Marine Enforcement. In 2004, Katz was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, where he served as a watch commander until being tapped by then incoming Chief Matt Immler to lead the offices of internal affairs, training, media relations, recruiting, grant procurement, agency accreditation, promotional assessments, public records fulfillment and grievance coordination.

After graduating with a BA in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University, Chief Katz went on to earn an M.S. in Business Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Next month, Chief Katz will complete the final course in his doctoral studies in Organizational Psychology, where he has completed extensive research in destructive leadership, organizational incivility, and corporate psychopathy. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course and has completed several executive level courses in leadership and management through Harvard University and the University of Notre Dame.
